Dr. Alice Ruth Chastain

Alice Ruth Chastain (RN and Professor). Ruth Chastain is a retired Professor of Nursing from the Union University School of Nursing in Jackson, Tennessee. She is a Registered Nurse with a doctorate in education. She was born of missionary parents in Manila, Philippines shortly before WW II and was interned with her family in Santa Tomas Internment Camp until liberated in 1945. She has four children and nine grandchildren.

"My mother, Alice Elizabeth Lye Broaddus, was born on September 9, 1904. She died at the age of ninety-seven. At her funeral her life was celebrated. It was said of her, ‘She was a true soldier of the Cross.” Alice Broaddus, mother, wife, and missionary, was guided by her belief in her all-powerful God. Travel back in time to war-torn China with Alice and her family as her youngest daughter, Dr. A. Ruth Chastain, recounts the life of her mother in Frontier Girl. Feel the pain in her heart when there is not enough food for her children. Listen as she sings hymns and tells Bible stories in the native Chinese language. Most of all, find inspiration as Alice’s faith only grows stronger in the face of trial and tribulation as she lives as a True Soldier of the Cross.
